We have been working with fathers since before free@last began, and have used a variety of different methods to encourage dads and their kids to spend time together.
We ran a series of Lottery funded courses that lasted for 12 weeks each, on a repeat and continuous basis, and there were three options available.
- The Photography Workshop included learning the basic techniques of photography,, taking photographs in a variety of environments. They then edited their photographs and produced a CD. included on the CD was a backing track which they had created themselves using a computer music programme.
- The Games/Arts and crafts encouraged Dads and their children to play a variety of games and use a range of mediums in order to create a work of art together.
- The Bike Maintenance had Dads and their children learn how to keep their bikes in a safe and roadworthy condition as well as learning about safety when riding.
These were excellent opportunities to learn new skills, build relationships and create new memories. These types of activities lasted for several years and were always supported by our dads workers, Steve, Selvyn and Stuart.
