We began by training children and teachers in our local schools to provide a peer mediation service to the rest of their school. We continued to train and support the six local primary schools in Nechells and Heartlands High. We also developed a website to support this work, which included a unique cartoon story of Little Red Riding Hood, with the children recording the voices.
In addition to the work within schools we delivered a 10-week introduction to mediation for local adults, and there were 8 people who started the course with 4 completing the training. We would liked to have gained extra funding to develop these adults into qualified mediators and be well on our way to a whole community service where conflict can be resolved. Unfortunately we could not continue with this, but it did make a massive difference to the children involved in the training and who were supported by their peer mentors..
